Martin Enger Holm appears as Der Minister in Ernst Toch’s fairy-tale opera Die Prinzessin auf der Erbse (The Princess and the Pea), performed by Landestheater Linz Musiktheater during the 2023/24 season.
Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s famous story, Ernst Toch’s charming one-act opera combines humour, elegant orchestration and lyrical vocal writing. Although less frequently performed today, the work remains an engaging example of twentieth-century opera inspired by classic fairy tales.
The role of Der Minister gave Martin the opportunity to perform an important supporting character whose authority and comic timing contribute to the unfolding royal intrigue. The production formed part of his engagement with the Upper Austrian Opera Studio at Landestheater Linz.
