This official production trailer features Martin Enger Holm performing the role of Dr. Prunesquallor in Irmin Schmidt’s contemporary opera Gormenghast, presented by Landestheater Linz Musiktheater during the 2025/26 season.
Based on Mervyn Peake’s celebrated novels, Gormenghast is a modern fantasy opera combining psychological drama with richly atmospheric orchestral writing. The production explores the strange traditions and power struggles within Castle Gormenghast, one of literature’s most distinctive fictional worlds.
Dr. Prunesquallor is one of the opera’s central characters, bringing wit, intelligence and humanity to the story. For Martin, the production marked another important contemporary role, expanding his repertoire beyond the classical and romantic operatic canon.
