Tomorrow evening, Martin Enger Holm will step onto the stage at Staatstheater Regensburg, stepping in for colleague Carlos Moreno Pelizari as Stuart Ullmann in Paul Moravec’s opera The Shining, based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel.
With less than 24 hours’ notice, Martin is now preparing intensively to learn the role in time for tomorrow’s performance.
Presented as the European premiere The Shining has been widely praised for its gripping musical language and psychologically powerful staging. Rather than focusing solely on horror, the opera tells the story of an ordinary family fighting for survival while isolated in the the haunted Overlook Hotel
I will perform the role of Stuart Ullmann, the manager of the Overlook Hotel who welcomes Jack Torrance and his family at the beginning of their winter stay, unaware of the darkness that awaits them.
The performance takes place tomorrow, 8 July at 19:30, at Staatstheater Regensburg.
